Buying a Yacht?

use a Broker for peace of mind…

Buying yachts has changed dramatically over the last 15 years with the Internet becoming the ideal boat search tool. As a buyer you can now view thousands of boats for sale around the world, from the comfort of your own home. To view the YOTT - Boats for Sale Classified Directory click here.

Buying a yacht

Once you have found the yacht of your dreams, whether over the Internet or privately, the actual purchase process has changed little. However to be sure that your money and investment are safe, you will need a professional yacht broker to do various checks. To ensure that you do not find that , for example; a finance company actually owns your new boat or, when you come to sell your boat,  you are committing a criminal offence as it does not comply with the Recreational Craft Directive. There are a few more traps for the unwary, so be sure that you have the correct paperwork professionally checked.

Use our registered Yott Broker ?
You wouldn’t dream of buying a house without the expertise of a solicitor, buying a yacht is the same. At Yott, we have our own qualified, YBDSA registered Yacht Broker to help you through the purchase or sale of any vessel.

As your chosen Yacht broker, we will do the following:

  • 1. Negotiation - act as the negotiator, ensuring that both parties are kept informed and advised on all aspects of the sale
  • 2. Deposits – arrange the signing of the legally binding Agreement of Sale and Purchase, once the price is agreed. Collect the holding deposit, normally 10% of the purchase price, to be kept in the client account
  • 3. Survey - arrange survey and/or sea trial, as required
  • 4. Documentation - check all aspects of the yacht’s documentation to ensure that all is in order, including:
  • • Title of the yacht
  • • Settlement of any outstanding finance
  • • Payment of outstanding bills ie boatyard, marina
  • • Tax status of the boat
  • • EU status
  • Handover - having received cleared funds from the purchaser we will ensure the smooth completion of the sale, boat handover and final settlement.

Fees

1% of purchase price, minimum fee £500 (Can be paid by either party or split as agreed)
